the power of fitness communities for lasting change

The value of community and connection in fitness is something that doesn’t get talked about enough. But, it’s a critical element if you want to experience lasting fitness results. In fact, members of a fitness community who help each other out can achieve higher levels of success than by solely getting expert advice from a coach.

Here’s what I mean.

As a coach, I have limitations in how much you can relate to me and vice versa. For example, if you’re a stay-at-home mom of three children, I can definitely guide you on your fitness journey, but a much more transformative experience would be to connect you with another client of mine who’s similar to you AND has had success. Then, you can implement what you’ve already learned from me together which goes a much longer way in keping you (both) on track.

My guest, Ben Brown, on this week’s episode of the Million Dollar Body podcast is an expert at this. He’s excellent at forming fitness communities that take what they know and implement that together for lasting change. Often fitness isn’t a matter of getting the latest information, it’s about putting in the work (that you already know how to do) with like-minded people who are just as committed to change as you are.

Ben is the owner of BSL Nutrition and I love his approach to fitness. He designed his year-long fitness programs with several important things in mind:

  • Data-driven techniques that take people’s differences into consideration and not just the generic stuff—he considers things like your environment, your stage of life, your health history, your readiness, and so much more when he designs your program.
  • How to empower you to become your own nutrition detective which requires learning what works best for your unique body and then being able to maintain it.
  • He factors in bumps in the road. Often shorter programs don’t consider life emergencies or unforeseen events and they don’t give the process enough time to collect adequate  data to make the best decisions.

We also chat about the concept that maintenance IS progress and best practices for getting to a place where you’re free to maintain and not keep dropping weight.

If you’re ready to hear from a top nutrition coach about how to make informed, long-term decisions that have a real impact on your physique and are in line with the lifestyle you want, listen to my talk with Ben Brown!
