I used to be in the same position.

I felt like no matter what I did, my lower back and belly fat were always the first to come and last to go. I could get my arms and chest and back to look the way I wanted them to, but not my abs.

There are several reasons for that and one is genetics…so thanks Mom and Dad. But honestly, if you struggle with holding belly fat, it will always be the first place you gain and the last place to go. The same goes for any other body part that tends to hold weight. So pay attention to your body to figure out what you’ve been genetically blessed with (hmph!) and start figuring out how to develop the most patience for that place.

Secondly, one of the major shifts that happened to me was that I realized I needed to lose 5-10 more pounds in order to get rid of the excess belly fat. So, it wasn’t a matter of hyper-focusing on ab workouts—hate to break it to you but you can’t spot reduce your belly—it was a matter of losing more fat. All the ab muscles in the world aren’t going to do you any good, i.e. make you look like a boss because of your six-pack, if your body fat percentage is still too high.
