want to boost your metabolism? Stop believing these three myths.

Let’s get something straight right now. Can we stop using the phrase “stoke your metabolic furnace?”  What does that even mean? We never say that for anything else, so let’s keep it that way when we talk about how to boost your metabolism.

Okay, now that I’m done with that soapbox, there are so many metabolism myths out there and I’m getting ready to BUST the three biggest ones.

Myth #1: Boost Your Metabolism By Eating Breakfast

We’ve all heard it: Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

Nope! Just not true. The more important issue here is: what are you eating for breakfast? If you make sure you never miss breakfast, but you’re eating sugary cereals and cupcakes disguised as blueberry muffins, this will literally do nothing to boost your metabolism.

What a sugar-filled breakfast WILL DO for you is cause your blood sugar to spike and crash repeatedly, causing you to crave sugar all.day.long.

Myth #2: Boost Your Metabolism By Eating Six Meals Per Day

I know you’ve heard this one, too: Eating six meals per day ignites your metabolism.

This little myth originates with Bill Phillips, the famous Body For Life fitness personality in the 70s and 80s. In his book, he told everyone to eat 3 meals per day PLUS 3 protein shakes per day. Oh, and by the way, he owned two supplement companies that carried the golden ingredients for those protein shakes. Just saying.

Listen, here’s the truth. Every time your body has to digest food, you’re pulling blood from your appendages and your brain over to your gut. In other words, costs your body energy that could be going to other more important things, like the mental acuity you need at 3pm for that sales call.

Myth #3: Your Metabolism Crashes After A Certain Age

It is true that your basal metabolic rate—the number of calories your body needs to keep you alive—slows down with age.

As each decade of your life passes, you need about 150 calories less to keep you going. BUT, there’s no point or age that your metabolism just stops. More often than not, your physical activity slows as you get older which is why you feel like your metabolism is not working.

in today’s podcast, I talk about how you can infuse more physical activity in your daily routine to keep the weight off as you get older, PLUS:

  • How to get your food to feed your muscles instead of your fat stores
  • The most important meal of the day (in my humble opinion) for mental energy

If you’re ready to understand how your metabolism really works and how to make it work for you, this video is for you.
